Groups

The endangered Gulf of Maine Distinct Population Segment of Atlantic Salmon represents the last wild population in the United States and the southernmost extent of their current range. Resources are limited, and recovery is complex. Fortunately, several groups have risen to the challenge of recovering salmon, other sea-run fish, and their habitats.

Atlantic Salmon Recovery Framework

The Atlantic Salmon Recovery Framework was a partnership between state, tribal, and federal resource agencies working together to identify and implement management actions with the greatest potential to further the recovery of Atlantic salmon. The Framework and implementation strategy was drafted by seven action teams which addressed key factors for salmon recovery. Because the recovery plan was undergoing revisions following the expanded listing, and listing of critical habitat in 2009 as well as because new information about threats to the species was emerging, the framework served as an interim strategy for the government and tribal agencies to follow. These action teams include scientists and managers from federal, tribal and state agencies with specific skills and expertise. They may also include outside experts who provided technical, scientific, or feasibility information on a case by case basis. As the new recovery plan was drafted and reaching completion, a decision was made to continue using the recovery action teams to organize or "govern" the complex and multi agency/multi party recovery efforts. Learn more about each of the action teams below or, if you are a member, log in to your team's workspace.
