Downeast Salmon Federation Releases Over 140,000 Atlantic Salmon into the East Machias River
The Downeast Salmon Federation has just released over 140,000 juvenile Atlantic salmon, called fall parr, throughout the East Machias River watershed. These juvenile salmon were released into many streams and throughout the mainstem of the river in an effort to restore the once great run of Atlantic salmon to the East Machias River. These fish were raised at the Peter Gray Hatchery located in East Machias at the East Machias Aquatic Research Center (EMARC).

AMERICA’S GREAT OUTDOORS: Fish & Wildlife Service Announces $20 Million in Grants to Conserve Coastal Wetlands
Today, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Director Dan Ashe announced $20 million in grants to 24 critical coastal wetland projects in 13 states and territories to conserve and restore coastal wetlands and their fish and wildlife habitat. An additional $21.3 million in matching funds will be provided by partner contributions from state and local governments, private landowners and conservation groups through the 2013 National Coastal Wetlands Conservation Grants Program.

ASF hosted an Atlantic Salmon Recovery Workshop in September 2013 entitled "What Works? Atlantic Salmon Recovery Workshop." Presenters from NB, NS, PE, QC, and NL as well as from the New England States, USA, took part in sharing their studies on Atlantic Salmon Recovery in their regions.

Atlantic Salmon Recovery Meeting - October 21st
We will be hosting a public meeting to present and discuss updates on efforts to recover Atlantic salmon in the Gulf of Maine DPS. While all teams will provide updates and generate discussion, the conservation hatcheries and genetic diversity teams will hold center stage. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 21 at the Schoodic Institute @ Acadia National Park beginning at 9:30 AM.
